About Us

Our Origin Story

When Despair Became Determination

We didn’t start with resources. We started with conviction.

In 2019, we could no longer ignore the devastating gap between Africa’s immense potential and the daily reality for millions of its people. Walking through communities across Nigeria, we witnessed first-hand how systemic barriers were stifling human potential at every turn – preventable diseases claiming lives, brilliant minds denied education, innovative entrepreneurs without capital, and technological solutions never reaching those who needed them most.

These weren’t isolated problems. They were symptoms of a fundamental disconnect – a continent rich in resources, creativity, and human capital yet consistently underserved by existing systems.

That night, after witnessing too many examples of potential being wasted, we made a promise that would become Better Africa Foundation: to bridge these gaps and create pathways to opportunity where none existed before.

Because Africa isn’t poor—it’s been poorly served.

Consider These Realities

Africa, birthplace of the world's first great civilization and earliest technological innovations in Egypt, now lags behind in the very conversation it started. The continent that gave humanity astronomy, mathematics, and engineering now struggles to provide basic technological access to its people

Despite having 17% of the world's population, Africa accounts for only 1% of global health expenditure and bears 25% of the global disease burden (WHO)

Over 32 million African children remain out of school, and just 9% of young people access higher education, compared to a global average of 38% (UNESCO)

According to the African Development Bank, 22% of Africa's working-age population are starting businesses—the highest entrepreneurship rate in the world—yet 80% of SMEs lack access to formal financing

Our Vision

We see an Africa where:

  • A child's potential is limited only by their dreams, never by their circumstances
  • Entrepreneurs build solutions that serve billions, not just survive
  • Technology created by Africans solves Africa's challenges first, then the world's
  • Communities thrive through interdependence, not dependence on external aid

This isn't utopian thinking. It's already happening in pockets across the continent. Our mission is to connect these pockets into a continent-wide transformation.

As one young woman in our program told us: "You didn't just give me an opportunity. You showed me I already had the power to create opportunity for others."

That's the exponential impact we're after—the moment when those we serve become those who serve.

Africa’s challenges weren’t created overnight, and they won’t be solved by any single intervention

They’ll be solved by a movement of people who refuse to accept the status quo. People who understand that when we unlock potential in others, we create the conditions for transformation.
